The hockey world mourns the passing of another legend, as it has been confirmed on Friday that Montreal Canadiens icon Guy Lafleur has passed away after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. The news reached the web on Friday morning via a Facebook post from Lafleur's sister, Lise. In the post, Lise was quoted as saying "You are done suffering. We will miss you greatly."

Lafleur played 17 seasons in the NHL, with a 3-year break from the game from 1985-1988. Of his 17 years in the League, Lafleur spent 14 of them with the Montreal Canadiens, recording 1,246 of his 1,353 career NHL points with the Habs.

The 1971 1st overall pick won 5 Stanley Cups with the Canadiens between 1973 and 1979. He also won three Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Trophies, three Ted Lindsay Awards and one Conn Smythe Trophy.

Lafleur was known for his trademark long flowing hair and his ability to take over games. The six-time NHL All-Star and Hall-of-Famer was 70 years old at the time of his passing.

Our deepest and most sincere condolences to the Lafleur family and the Montreal Canadiens organization during this very difficult time.
