The Carolina Hurricanes have officially kicked off their postseason at home with the Boston Bruins in town for Game 1, but there is one notable absence for the Canes. Frederik Andersen still has not been able to get medical clearance to be able to resume play. As a result, Antti Raanta is in goal on Monday.

After Sunday's practice, Canes head coach Rod Brind'Amour did not instill confidence in anyone when asked who his starter to open the playoffs would be.

It's not going to be 'Freddie' [Monday], I can tell you that. He did touch the ice today, so you can take what you want out of that.

Andersen's injury is an unfortunate one and has derailed what has been a quality first season in Carolina. He should be getting a Vezina nomination if all goes well.

During the regular season, Andersen posted a 32-14-3 record, sitting 2nd in the NHL with a 2.07 GAA. The Great Dane is also tied for 3rd in Save % with a .922.

Raanta was 15-5-4 with a 2.45 GAA, .912 save percentage and two shutouts in the regular season.

Hurricanes rookie goalie Pyotr Kochetkov started the lion's share of the games for the Hurricanes to close out the season. He went 3-0 this season with a GAA of 2.42. Kochetkov has a record of 13-1-1 with the AHL Chicago Wolves. He'll be backing up Raanta until Andersen is cleared to return.
