Well, fast forward a month and a half and here we are in September, with Subban still having yet to sign a new deal. Whether that be because of a lofty asking price or a lack of interest remains unclear, but according to P.K. Subban's agent, via ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, there are plenty of interested parties - they just can't pull the trigger on a deal until they sort some other things out.
Subban's best days are undoubtedly long behind him, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he can't help out a team in ways other than on the score sheet. Subban has a ton of experience, a booming shot from the point and plays with a physical edge and isn't shy about mixing it up with opposing players after the whistle. What's that worth to a team? It's tough to say, but the fact that there are teams with interest would suggest that something will get done and Subban is likely to play this season.
Should the 33-year-old not sign a deal in the coming weeks, I can imagine we'll see him sign a PTO somewhere to test the fit before agreeing to terms on a deal, which at this point is likely to be a short-term "show me" deal.
