The Vancouver Canucks/J.T. Miller negotiations have been a widely discussed subject this summer and even stemming back to last year's trade deadline. The two sides reportedly remain very far apart in extension discussions and we could be heading towards a very messy split.

The word on the street now is that Miller's camp is very frustrated with the fact that the Canucks are not willing to play ball and have placed a timeline on when they're amenable to finding a resolution that works for both sides. It appears as though if there's no deal in place by the start of the season, Miller has threatened to pull out of negotiations and will not re-sign in Vancouver.

The Canucks are not entirely out of options here, as they can still trade Miller to recoup some assets, but they're certainly going to have a tough time replacing a fringe 100-point player. Unlike the Matthew Tkachuk situation in Calgary, I doubt Miller will be open to the idea of re-opening discussions on a potential sign and trade to help the Canucks out once he shuts the door on in-season negotiations. Further to that, if Miller simply waits and plays out the season, he'll have his pick of the litter next summer.

With Nazem Kadri having recently signed his 7-year, $49M deal ($7M AAV), it's unlikely that Miller gets anything below that mark. It's reasonable to suggest, however, that he'll get more - possibly as high as $8M per season, since Kadri reportedly both left money on the table and is two years older than Miller. Miller also has a more consistent track record of being at or near a point-per-game than Kadri.
