Late in the 1st period, the Kings were already on tilt, down 1-0 in the game when forward Blake Lizotte was called for tripping in the corner of the Leafs' defensive zone. As Lizotte, who vehemently disagreed with the call, pleaded his case to the official, Simmonds skated by and gave Lizotte a shove, nearly knocking him to the ice.
Lizotte fired back at Simmonds, delivering a slash to the back of his leg, almost sending him to the ice as well. A bit of a scrum ensued, but nothing else came out of it other than Lizotte's original penalty. You can see the full exchange below.
The Leafs need this in their lineup. These types of exchanges create energy for the entire team and also generates some excitement for the fans and gets them involved in the game as well. For a team who often lacks that jam and that feistiness, Simmonds creates those things on a nightly basis. Love this from Simmonds and I can imagine his teammates do as well.
