Well, Liljegren completed his loan on Monday, but has since been placed back on LTIR, causing some confusion. At first, some were concerned that perhaps Liljegren had suffered some sort of a setback. Well, I'm not so sure that's the case.
Liljegren was originally placed on LTIR back on October 10th in order to ensure that the Leafs were cap compliant to start the season. There are two conditions for LTIR that need to be met before a player is eligible to return. They need to sit out a minimum of 10 games and 24 days. While Liljegren has sat out his 10 games, his 24 days won't be up until November 3rd, which means he'll likely make his season debut against the Boston Bruins on Saturday, November 5th.
Liljegren's return can't come fast enough for the Leafs, who could use a bit of a blueline shake-up. The right-shot defenseman was one of the Buds' most reliable two-way defenders last season.
