After the announcement that Liljegren and fellow injured blueliner Jordie Benn would both be loaned to the AHL's Toronto Marlies on Tuesday, both Benn and Liljegren made their AHL season debuts on Wednesday. The assignment is a simple one for both Leafs blueliners; get some reps in at game speed, ramp up the intensity and focus on their conditioning ahead of their anticipated NHL returns next week.
Liljegren seems to have his timing down already, after absolutely leveling Syracuse Crunch forward Gabriel Fortier, who was attempting to carry the puck in over the Marlies' blueline.
It's actually fairly impressive that Liljegren appears to be no worse for the wear after recovering from his surgery. Obviously, the speed of the AHL and the speed of the NHL are two different things entirely, but his first outing is a very promising start.
