Ahead of the 2022-23 season, the Kamloops Blazers have just announced their leadership group via Twitter. Among this list, Toronto Maple Leafs Prospect Fraser Minten has been rewarded with the alternate captaincy for all home games.

Minten, an 18-year-old left-handed center, was drafted 38th overall in the second round at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Going into the upcoming season, this will be Minten's third season as a part of the Blazers. In his first season with the Blazers, Minten only played 20 games in a shortened season due to COVID-19. The most notable part of that season was Minten's 18 points, which solidified himself as close to a point-per-game scorer. This certainly turned some heads, as Minten was young and still had a ton of development years ahead of him.

Last season was truly his first full season in a Blazer's uniform, where he tallied 55 points in 67 games. Minten was a core piece in last year's Conference Finals run, the longest run the Blazers have had in 23 years, where they eventually lost to the Seattle Thunderbirds in Game 7 by a score of 3-2. Throughout last year's playoffs, Minten was the Blazer's go-to guy down the stretch. Minten cemented himself as a leader in last year's postseason, where he posted 16 points in 17 playoff games.

Minten is a two-way center that can be applied in almost every situation. The Blazers utilized him on their special teams as he is a highly knowledgeable and skillful individual that played a pivotal role in the team's success last season. This was taken into consideration when Kyle Dubas took Minten off the board much earlier than expected at 38th overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

As Minten has proven he can produce on both ends of the ice, the Blazers look to make a deeper run under his leadership and presence this upcoming season. Minten will look to build off the career year he had last season and work towards his future in the NHL.

Along with the news of his recent captaincy, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that they are signing Minten to a three-year, entry-level contract. As the current Maple Leafs sit at 50/50 contracts, this won't be applied for this year but for the future starting next season.
