Per trusted NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Vancouver Canucks and team captain Bo Horvat are not close on an extension. Friedman said that many expect the new contract to be between $6 million and $7 million per season. However, Friedman thinks that is low, and at the very least Horvat will get $7 million per year.
Horvat, now 27-years-old, was drafted by the Canucks in 2013 ninth overall. The pick was acquired from the New Jersey Devils, in exchange for goaltender Cory Schneider.
Horvat made his Canucks debut during the 2014-15 season. He was named the teams 14th Captain on October 9, 2019. In 572 career games, Horvat has put up 366 points (170 goals & 196 assists), good for 18th in career points by a Vancouver Canuck.
Of course if Horvat is going to continue to rise on that list past this season, he will need a new contract. The London, Ontario native is entering the final year of six year, $33 million dollar contract. His current AAV is $5.5 million. If the Canucks want to retain their captain, you can expect that figure to go up on his next contract.
