While it has been very quiet, two significant rumours have popped up on Wednesday. We would be very wise to take them with a HUGE grain of salt, considering the source, but per the report from "Eklund" of HockeyBuzz, a trio of NHL teams are showing interest in William Nylander should the Leafs opt to trade him. Per Eklund, those 3 teams are the New York Islanders, Washington Capitals and Anaheim Ducks.
Eklund appears to believe that the Islanders are the frontrunners for Nylander, as he actually attached names to the rumour in J.G. Pageau and Oliver Wahlstrom being a part of the package rumoured to be heading back to Toronto should such a deal materialize.
The second rumour involved Auston Matthews. After a whole lot of "status quo" reports over the last week and a half, Eklund believes that the Leafs have finally signed Matthews to a deal, which carries a term of 5 years or less, and that the Leafs are waiting to announce the extension until after William Nylander is dealt.
Again, we should take these rumours with a huge grain of salt until someone a little more reputable like NHL Insiders Elliotte Friedman, Kevin Weekes or Chris Johnston reports something similar. We're simply sharing what's floating around out there, so do with this information what you will.
