With several teams already over the salary cap and unable to clear cap space as easily as they'd have liked, there are limited spots available for the many UFAs who remain steadfast in their pursuit of an NHL contract. For other UFAs, now is the time to pursue other opportunities. Such is the case for former 2nd round pick Jonathan Dahlen.
Dahlen played 61 games for the San Jose Sharks last season, scoring 12 goals and adding 10 assists for a total of 22 points. The 24-year-old was once a highly touted prospect, but for one reason or another, he has been unable to find a team in the NHL who was willing to take a chance on him. Now, he'll return to Sweden to continue his professional career.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Dahlen has inked a 5-year deal with Timra IK of the SHL. The 24-year-old will be 29 when his deal expires, so if he wishes to make an NHL return, there may be an opportunity down the line, provided he makes the most of his time back home in Sweden.
