Just a few days ago Wayne Simmonds said the Leafs' fifth line could be a bottom six line anywhere in the league. He may have known that his chances of making the opening night roster were slim and that has been all but confirmed now as Elliotte Friedman reported today that the Leafs have made it clear to teaqms that they're looking to move Simmonds.

According to Friedman, the Leafs want to do right by Simmonds, who said he feels good and wants to continue to play. With rosters set to be finalized tomorrow at 5pm, it doesn't give the Leafs much time to work out a deal for the winger who has skated in 1,019 career NHL games. Friedman also noted that the return is not important to the Leafs as they want to help Simmonds continue his career at a destination of his preference instead of being placed and possibly claimed on waivers.

Simmonds has just this season left on the two year deal he signed with the Leafs last off-season. In 2 seasons with the Leafs, Simmonds has registered 12 goals, 27 points and 151 penalty minutes.
