The Flyers are expected to go through a whirlwind of changes in their front office - including the many Senior Advisors who have been around for far too long - but also some of their young core players that the rest of the league will be ready to pounce on.
It's no secret that Ivan Provorov and Travis Konecny are back on the trade block since they both have 2 years remaining on their contract, would be the best pieces on the team to move for future assets, and don't seem to fit the timeline of their perceived lengthy rebuild. Carter Hart's name has now been mentioned countless times since Friday and there's definitely some smoke behind that fire.
Hart is currently only 24-years-old, he is signed through the end of the 2023-24 season, and will be a restricted free agent when his contract comes to an end. Don't let his statistics fool you, he has actually done as good a job as anyone could do for a Flyers team that has a disastrous backend.
However 1) are the Flyers prepared to take the risk on trading a young, not-yet-in-their-prime goaltender? and 2) If they decide not to trade him this summer, will Carter Hart want to sign long-term at the end of 2023-24? He will be an RFA, so the Flyers have the leverage there, but even RFAs can force their way out - Matthew Tkachuk.
Daniel Briere intimated that there won't be a fire-sale going on in Philadelphia, however it is believed that everyone will be made available. This rebuild is going to be long, it's going to be tough for the Flyers faithful, but it's been a long time coming and should've started at the very least after the 2020-21 season.
Hart is the one player on the Flyers who would command something close to a king's ransom and if placed on a contending team or even just a team with decent-to-good defense, he will be talked about for years as a top-10 goaltender - some of his numbers are comparable to some of the league's best this season.
