Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Joseph Woll has had a challenging start to the season. He was injured before the season opener against the Montreal Canadiens and was eager to return to the ice. Woll made his season debut against Craig Berube's former team, the St. Louis Blues, on Thursday where he gave up four goals, resulting in an eventual 5-1 loss.
Before suiting up against the Blues on Thursday night, hockey social media creator @hockeyilluminati shared a hilarious skit featuring his grandmother on Instagram, aimed at ensuring Woll's health for the remainder of the season.
While the skit was strictly for laughs, it also taps into a huge concern for Leafs fans, as it seems as though Woll cannot stay healthy and has not been able to do with any real consistency during his young NHL career. Although Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby filled in capably during Woll's injury, the Maple Leafs are glad to have Woll back in good health.
Woll's battles with various injuries throughout his NHL career are well noted, but when he's on the ice, Woll is arguably one of the best young goalies in the league. The key now is whether he can maintain his current health and go on a bit of a roll here.
The Maple Leafs have had a disappointing start to the season, currently sitting at 4-4-0, which, if they remain at that pace, is going to be insufficient for a playoff spot. They need Woll healthy and they need him winning. That's the goal here moving forward. Hopefully Granny Illuminati's blessing helps in that aspect of things.
