Auston Matthews and William Nylander Sporting Some Unique Custom Options on Their Gear

Auston Matthews and William Nylander were far and away the two best players on the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2023-24 season. Matthews nearly reached the 70-goal mark, finishing with 69 tallies, while Nylander set a career high with 98 points and recorded his second consecutive 40-goal season.

In addition to their high-level talent, both players exhibit some creativity with their hockey gear. According to NHL and geargeekhockey on Instagram, the Maple Leafs duo enjoys customizing their equipment.

Matthews has his nickname, ''Papi 34,'' on all of his hockey sticks. Nylander, known for his style, sports the nickname ''Willy Styles'' on his gear. The stylish Swede also shows his affection for his dogs, often sharing pictures of them on Instagram. His gloves feature the names ''Banksy'' and ''Pablo,'' so his beloved pets are with him on the ice at all times.

Whether or not this customization gives them a mental edge, it's certainly a cool personal touch nonetheless. Whatever the dynamic duo is doing, it certainly seems to be working.
