Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews revealed that the injury he suffered in Game 4 against the Boston Bruins was from a "weird" hit.

As the Leafs held their end of season media availability, when Matthews appeared in front of the media, many hoped we would get some clarification about his mysterious illness and injury that held him out of game 5 and game 6 and saw him pulled in game 4. After the Leafs lost game seven, Matthews was asked about it and said that he would go into detail at another time. Unfortunately, it was not today.

What did Matthews reveal about his illness and injury?

"I got really really sick after game 2. Playing game 3, obviously just going through that, trying to recover going into game 4. I took a weird hit and couldn't play any longer and that's as far as I'm going to get into it."

Given that Matthews was still very vague about his injury and illness it does not seem like we will get a definitive answer any time soon, unless he has to undergo some sort of surgery.

Matthews doesn't care about individual awards

To end his media availability, Matthews was asked about being nominated for the Lady Byng and Selke Trophies as well as winning his third Rocket Richard Trophy, to which he responded by saying that while the individual awards are "nice" but that he doesn't see them as fulfilling or the reason why he plays.

While a massive amount of change is expected amongst the roster this off-season, one thing we know for sure is that Matthews will be dawning the blue and white for at least another four seasons in the hopes of realizing his ultimate goal of winning a Stanley Cup.
