Brad Marchand thrown to the ice by an NHL referee
Game 5 of the Leafs-Bruins series was always going to be a barn-burner, but I don't think anyone had Brad Marchand being bodied by a referee on their bingo card.
The play occurred in the third period after Marchand got tangled up with Leafs forward Pontus Holmberg, with both players being called for offsetting minor penalties.
It almost appears as though the official thought Marchand was going to go after Holmberg after the whistle and simply tried to intervene. Either way, Marchand didn't seem to pleased with the incident.
Marchand was stunned to be getting a call on the play, but even the broadcast team felt as though both Marchand and Holmberg deserved to go to the box after their tussle. Neither the Leafs nor the Bruins scored at 4-on-4, so no harm done, except maybe to Marchand's ego.
