"The Toronto Maple Leafs and general manager Kyle Dubas have spent the last two weeks trying to find suitors for Patrick Marleau and Nikita Zaitsev. Marleau was sent to Carolina along with a first round pick in a salary dump and it sounds like Dubas has finally found a partner to get rid of Zaitsev's salary but the Leafs will have to take some on as well. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Leafs will be sending Zaitsev to Ottawa in the next couple of days. Sportsnet's Chris Johnston adds that the return is likely defenseman Cody Ceci after Zaitsev's $3million bonus is paid on the first. Ceci is a restricted free agent coming off a one year contract that saw him earn $4.3million. More to come.
There is belief that Cody Ceci could be heading back in return. Would make sense if it was processed after Zaitsev's $3M bonus is paid July 1. https://t.co/AJ31P49MGh — Chris Johnston (@reporterchris) June 29, 2019
