The Toronto Maple Leafs need some help on the blue line.General manager Kyle Dubas took a roll of the dice and paid up to get Jake Muzzin from the Los Angeles Kings. The hope was that Morgan Rielly could move over to the right and Muzzin on the left to form the top defensive pairing. Unfortunately it didn't work out as planned and now Rielly and Muzzin play 1-2 on the left side and the Leafs are still looking for help on the right side. It's been made public that Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold is tired of "just making the playoffs" and has given new GM Paul Fenton permission to blow the roster up even if it means missing the playoffs. Jonas Siegel of The Athletic believes the Wild might hold the solution to the Leafs' problems. In one of his latest articles, Siegal lists defenseman Jared Spurgeon as a Leafs trade target. "He's a quick-moving, puck-dishing, right shooter with the wherewithal and experience to defend top lines."
Siegal is UFA in 2020 and carries a $5.187million cap hit until then. The 29 year old currently has 11 goals and 25 assists for 36 points in 59 games so far this season.
