Craig Berube and Chris Tanev appear to be on the same page when it comes to the Maple Leafs' performance against the Vancouver Canucks in disappointing loss.

The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a humbling 3-0 defeat to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. Shutouts against the Maple Leafs are rare, so when one occurs, it's particularly hard to swallow.

One veteran defender, known for his positive comments about his teammates and the Leafs organization, did not hold back with his criticism following the loss.

Chris Tanev expressed his frustration, as per Nick Barden on X:

"Not good enough. They outworked us, outcompeted us, and that's why they won."

Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube, who is not shy about holding his team accountable or offering praise when deserved, echoed Tanev's sentiments, albeit in his own way.

Craig Berube as per Luke Fox on X:

"We need more life and energy," Berube said following the loss. "I didn't think we played with enough pace in the game. We didn't obviously generate enough. We obviously have to generate more than we did, power plays included."

Together, these two statements, though worded differently, convey the same message: the team needs to improve its performance and take responsibility for their play.

The loss also highlighted a questionable decision to start Dennis Hildeby over Joseph Woll in goal. The decision backfired, as Hildeby struggled, allowing 3 goals on just 18 shots.

This loss marks back-to-back defeats for the Maple Leafs, an unusual situation for a team that sits atop the Atlantic Division with a 27-15-2 record.

The Maple Leafs will look to bounce back on Tuesday against the Dallas Stars, hoping to get back into the win column.
