Domi wanted to be a Leaf so bad that he took less money and security, agreeing to a one-year, $3M deal last summer. Domi got to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing for the same team his dad, Tie Domi, once did. The 29-year-old played well, scoring 9 goals and 47 points in 80 games.
Domi carried that regular season momentum into the post season, producing 1 goal and 4 points in Toronto's seven game run. In the absence of superstar Auston Matthews in Game 5, Domi was moved to the middle on a line with Tyler Bertuzzi and Mitch Marner. Domi came up huge winning 66% of the draws, as he looked more comfortable in his natural center position.
With the season now over, Toronto held their end of season press availability today where Domi was asked if he would like to come back to Toronto. This was his response.
By the sounds of it, Domi doesn't appear to be interested in taking less to remain a Leaf, but who knows what may happen on July 1st if he doesn't find the offers he's looking for on the open market. Of course, we could just as easily see an extension reached before we even get to July 1st, so we'll just have to wait and see.
