"The clock is ticking as we head towards the start of training camp and there's still no hope in sight when it comes to the Toronto Maple Leafs and a new contract with restricted free agent Mitch Marner. The two sides are clearly at a standoff and not many believe anything will get done soon. Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas basically confirmed that feeling when he spoke to the media while attending the World Junior Summer Showcase. The Leafs GM was asked about the negotiations and had pretty much nothing positive to say. «It's just really the status quo at this point,» Dubas told TSN. «I think the reality is, it's the status quo with all these types of players throughout the league. There doesn't seem to be anything really transpiring, and as it gets into August, it's kind of into abit of a slog where there doesn't seem to be any real progress. You don't even hear of any progress in any of the other situations.»
As time goes on, it's starting to become heartbreaking that the Leafs can't get a deal done with their hometown boy. "
