Ex-Leaf believes the Maple Leafs are about to make a huge mistake
With rumours swirling of the Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets backup Laurent Brossoit having mutual interest in a deal on July 1st, one former Leaf has expressed his displeasure with the idea.
Frank Corrado's NHL career was a short one, but with how well he analyzes the game, he's become quite the TV and radio personality in recent years.
The former Leaf was on TSN 1050's First Up this week and had plenty to say about the Leafs' goaltending search, making a strong case for why the Leafs should not pursue Laurent Brossoit this summer and why they should go after a starter instead.
He didn't even play enough games to meet the Jennings requirements this year, so Hellebuyck won that award on his own, so you'd have to be willing to give him more of a workload than he had this year playing behind Connor Hellebuyck... as far as backup goalies go, you'd be giving him a 1B situation.
I think he's a good goalie, but I don't think it changes the way the Leafs look in net, meaning they still don't have that number one guy that you wanna have, you wanna lean on... it doesn't scream 'solidified.'"
Honestly, for as good as Brossoit is as a backup - and he's a good one - to think that he can sustain his solid play over a 40-game slate as opposed to 20-25 games, is a bit delusional.
Brad Treliving has already expressed his concerns over Woll's inability to remain healthy, so I highly doubt he's going to hitch his wagon to a Woll/Brossoit tandem, knowing what we know about both goalies.
