Early Wednesday morning, concerns arose when the Leafs used an emergency recall on rookie goaltender Dennis Hildeby. Many immediately suspected that Woll was injured, which was later confirmed by the Leafs. That left Anthony Stolarz to start against the Montreal Canadiens instead, with Hildeby dressing as the backup for the season opener.
Woll's injury was the main topic of conversation on Wednesday's 'Leafs Morning Take' episode, and former Leaf Jay Rosehill was not enthused, going on a rant and slamming Woll's inability to stay healthy.
Rosehill's frustration could be felt throughout his rant and I'm certain that there are plenty of fans who agree with his frustration about the Woll situation. Everyone is baffled by the news and all of the concerns about the health of the tandem before the season have proven to be true on day one.
Matters only worsened when Woll was placed on Injured Reserve on Wednesday, meaning that he will be guaranteed to miss at least the first 3 games for the Maple Leafs. Hopefully this is all just one small bump in the road, but it's definitely not a positive start for Woll and the Leafs.
