The talk of the NHL today is how long Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly should be suspended after cross-checking Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig at the end of the game last night. For those of you that live under a rock, Greig decided it was necessary to take a full on slapshot into the empty net from the top of the crease to secure the Senators' win.

Sens fans thought it was hilarious and called Rielly "scum" for his cross-check to Greig's shoulder and head while Leaf fans loved Rielly's reaction, as it showed heart, grit and that the Leafs won't take things lying down. The NHL found it excessive given the fact Rielly has been offered an in-person hearing and a former NHLer decided to take a shot, pun intended, at Greig over his embarrassing shot.

Former Carolina Hurricane and Stanley Cup Champion Aaron Ward shared that the NHL's stat tracking devices clocked Greig's empty net goal at a whopping 73MPH or, as Ward called it, "a total muffin".

According to NHL Edge, Greig's shot speed ranked below the 50th percentile among all NHL shots recorded this season. For a player of Greig's size (6'1, 185 pounds) and being able to skate into the shot from the blueline you would think it would have been a little harder than that.
