"The Toronto Maple Leafs had a very big name helping them out at development camp. The legendary Haylay Wickenheiser was one of three coaches for Team White and she loved it. "Standing behind the bench, that's probably a first for me but it is kind of nice to be back in the game, you kind of get into it a little bit," Wickenheiser said.
As much as Wickenheiser was impressed, everybody was impressed with her as well, so much so that the Leafs and Wickenheiser could be looking at getting her a full time position. According to Scott Wheeler of The Athletic, Wickenheiser and general manager Kyle Dubas have had ongoing talks about a potential role with the Leafs. "If there is a role for me here, that's great moving forward. I'd be interested to see what happens and stay in hockey. That would be fun to do that and see where it takes me at this point," Wickenheiser said. "The best thing about Kyle, I find, is that he's very open to diverse thinking, he's very open to exploring a lot of different ways to make the team better. I really appreciate that. I think that's a winning attitude and it's something I like to be around."
Would you like to see the future Hall Of Famer join the Leafs organization in some capacity?
