The Toronto Maple Leafs and Leaf fans suffered another heartbreak at the hands of the Boston Bruins and David Pastrnak as they were once again eliminated in Game 7 by the Bruins, following a trend of similar outcomes when the two teams met in 2013, 2018, 2019 and now again in 2024.
When Pastrnak scored the overtime winner off of a «set play», many torched Mitch Marner for his lack of effort to at least attempt to disrupt Pastrnak on his way to the puck and the net.
Now, new footage has revealed that Morgan Rielly called out to Ilya Samsonov moments before Pastrnak picked up the puck off the bounce to the slot.
In the clip, Pastrnak was mic'd up, and as he skated into the Leafs' zone, beating Marner and Rielly to the puck, his mic picks up Rielly's comments.
Although Marner took the lion's share of the blame, many also wondered why Samsonov chose not to poke the puck away and stayed in his crease. Now, it's clear that fans were not the only ones thinking that.
That may have been the last time we see Samsonov in the blue and white as he is a free agent on July 1st, and after the type of season he had, many Leaf fans would not be opposed to him leaving and giving the net to a hopefully healthy Joseph Woll on a full-time basis.
