Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll has been on the sidelines recovering from a high-ankle sprain suffered December 7th against the Ottawa Senators. Woll had been practicing for the last couple of weeks with the Leafs before returning to game action for the Toronto Marlies over the weekend. His peformance in the Marlies' win over the Laval Rocket was good enough for the Leafs to cut his conditioning stint short and recall the 25-year-old.
Woll rejoined the Leafs for practice yesterday and following practice was asked about how he has dealt with the injury and lengthy recovery process.
"One thing I've learned over my years is nerves are a natural part of the game. I've learned how to manage them a lot better. Yeah, definitely after being off for a couple of months, [I was nervous]. But I try to use it to my advantage, and it helps me get in the action and get focused," Woll explained. "The aim in your rehab is to try to get to a spot where you feel comfortable and you don't have to think about it. I'm really looking forward to helping this team out. It's been a bit of a hiatus, but I'm excited to be back here."
In 15 games for the Leafs this season, the 2016 third-round pick has gone 8-5-1 with a 2.80 GAA and .916 save percentage.
