There has been plenty of speculation about what is going to happen with the Vancouver Canucks, Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller as public reports has indicated there is a divide between the two star centermen. Many expect at least one of them to be moved with most believing it will be the 31-year-old Miller.
Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos made a suggestion that the Leafs should acquire the Ohio native, but given the limited assets and multiple holes the Leafs have to fill that would almost be impossible.
Not to mention, the Leafs are currently operating in LTIR and Miller's $8M salary and five remaining years would force the Leafs to move a significant player or multiple pieces out even with retention.
While Miller fits the narrative the Leafs want a center with term, the term and dollar amount is just too high, and Kypreos' colleague Elliotte Friedman was quick to dismiss a Miller to the Leafs trade on 'Saturday Headlines'.
Miller holds a no-movement clause so he would have final say in any trade regardless, but he would have been the perfect fit for the Maple Leafs down the middle, if he didn't come with an $8M price tag. He's physical, can play all three forward positions, plays with an edge and can put the puck in the net.
The situation in Vancouver is being watched closely throughout the league, and with just two months until the trade deadline, should come to a head sooner rather than later. With the reported asking price of both Pettersson and Miller however, the Leafs may be wise to acquire another center before the Canucks reset the market value for centermen.
