Insider Confirms Trade on the Way for Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Brad Treliving have a very deep training camp roster and are currently looking to create some space via the trade market.
The Fourth Period's Dave Pagnotta was on NHL Network on Wednesday and was asked about the Maple Leafs and if they had any plans to shake up their roster even more than they already have. Pagnotta revealed that the Leafs are working the phones and centering trades around two specific players.
"They don't have a ton of cap space, they don't have much at all. They are looking at ways to create additional cap but also free up a little bit of roster space. Even with Robertson locked in on that 1-year contract, I'm told he's very much in play and Brad Treliving is having conversations about the possibility of moving him. Conor Timmins' name is out there as wel... There are ways to alleviate a little bit of cap space. Timmins carries a $1.1M cap hit and has found his name in the rumour mill since the beginning of September. Robertson, on the other hand, has been looking for a fresh start since his trade request at the end of June. While he signed a one-year deal with the Leafs just last week, some throughout the league saw it as a way to make it easier to trade him.
As we get deeper into training camp, it will be interesting to see where Robertson and Timmins fit in the lineup and how Craig Berube uses them. Their usage could and should reveal the Leafs' long-term plans for each of them.
