After another disappointing first round exit, the Leafs are expected to undergo a major transformation this summer, which began with the firing of head coach Sheldon Keefe and is expected to result in changes to the core of the team as well.
In addition, the Leafs have about a dozen pending UFA's to make decisions on, including the likes of Tyler Bertuzzi, Mark Giordano, Ilya Samsonov, T.J. Brodie, Joel Edmundson, and Max Domi, among others.
We have heard the Maple Leafs being connected to a number of trade targets so far this spring, but we have yet to hear who they might opt to pursue in free agency in just over 6 weeks time. David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period provided us with 3 names in connection to the Leafs this week.
These 3 names may not be the sexiest candidates out there, but each could help the Leafs in their own unique way.
Arvidsson, 31, has scored 20 or more goals 5 times in his NHL career and could certainly help the Leafs produce some secondary offense behind Auston Matthews and William Nylander.
Joshua, a former 5th round pick of the Leafs back in 2014, is a 6'3, 206-pound depth forward who hits everything that moves and had produced 18 goals, 32 points and 60 penalty minutes for Vancouver this season. He does a little bit of everything and could be a nice depth add in Toronto.
Zadorov, 29, is a 6'6, 250-pound monster of a defenseman who also racks up big hit numbers and won't hesitate to drop the gloves. The hulking defenseman is not someone who can be bullied in front of his own net, which is an attractive quality for a Leafs blueline that needs a lot of attention this summer.
There are plenty of names out there this summer that can help the Leafs, but these are the 3 that Pagnotta seems to think the Leafs will have their eye on when July 1st rolls around.
