Insider Mentions Former Teammate of Mitch Marner As Legitimate Trade Option for Maple Leafs
Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period mentions Montreal Canadiens forward as a realistic trade option for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Recent remarks from Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving point to a very specific trade deadline acquisition; he wants to add to the Toronto Maple Leafs center depth before the trade deadline of March 7th, and preferably someone who can contribute on the power play.
The main issue for the Maple Leafs is feeling as though they need to bolster their 3rd line before the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs begin.
Several options have been speculated on over the last few weeks, but one insider has brought a name into the equation that hasn't been talked about before. It also happens to be a player that has a history with Mitch Marner.
While discussing some options to fill the void, Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period mentioned Christian Dvorak as a possibility for the Leafs if Brad Treliving is unable to land a centre like Brock Nelson of the New York Islanders.
Dvorak's NHL stats show he's not an offensive force. However, he can add some scoring with the right linemates, and is a very reliable defensive forward who can help on the penalty kill.
There is also the benefit of adding a player who has a history with one of your stars. Dvorak was a teammate and linemate of Mitch Marner with the London Knights while winning the 2016 Memorial Cup. Their third linemate was Matthew Tkachuk.
As for what might go the other way, Pagnotta mentioned Nick Robertson, as trade talk surrounding him has heated up as we approach the trade deadline.
Whether or not Treliving would consider moving Robertson within the division, though, is certainly up for debate.
