TSN's Darren Dreger did a radio hit on Monday, bringing up a new theory on what may occur with Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner this summer.

Since the conclusion of their postseason run, stalling out against Boston in Round 1 - again - the Maple Leafs have pondered what to do with Mitch Marner.

The prevailing thought throughout the month of May was that Marner would be traded at some point this summer. However, halfway through the month of June, Dreger is suggesting that perhaps Marner isn't moved at all, but extended instead.

"Are we sure that Toronto doesn't want to extend Mitch? I'm not. I think [Brad] Treliving would rather extend than trade." -Dreger on the Marner, Leafs debacle

I'm not sure fans have the appetite to run it back again. If they opt to bring Marner back, then they'll have to explore moving one of the other 3 members of the Core 4 for the fans to be ready to buy back in.

Marner produced a whopping 85 points in just 69 games in 2023-24, missing significant time due to an ankle injury.
