The Toronto Maple Leafs and general manager Kyle Dubas addressed his blue line this week when he landed defenseman Tyson Barrie from the Colorado Avalanche. Like Jake Muzzin, Barrie will be UFA after the upcoming season so there's no hurt long term no matter what Mitch Marner signs for. However even with Barrie around, the Leafs are arguably still missing another defenseman after moving on from Ron Hainsey, Nikita Zaitsev and Jake Gardiner. But maybe Gardiner can return at a discount?According to reports, Gardiner isn't getting offered the $7million a season he was hoping for on the open market. As we've now hit Day 3 of free agency he might not even get $6million a season and might be looking at something like $5.5million for five years. According to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, Gardiner could be looking to return to Toronto on a bonus heavy contract. It would require Dubas to continue to get creative as the Leafs currently only have $11million in cap space with Marner still needing a contract. Would you like to find a way to get Gardiner back in the lineup?
