The Toronto Maple Leafs got the win on Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings.More importantly was the fact that Michael Hutchinson finally stood out and got his first win of the season as the Leafs' backup goalie. While Hutchinson earned lots of praise in what was likely a make it or break it game, two Leafs' forwards found themselves in head coach Sheldon Keefe's doghouse. Both William Nylander and Kasperi Kapanen spent the majority of the third period on the bench as Keefe wasn't too happy with their effort. He was asked about the decision by reporters. «That line I just thought, maybe didn't get much going on. But also just didn't really like the other lines and how things were moving so I just wanted to mix things up.»
"It's the way that it goes; some nights guys are going to play more than others. Willy had an outstanding game yesterday and was a difference-maker for us. Today it was other guys. That's part of having a team and an 82-game season."
Keefe added that the team's depth allows him to bench certain players for not performing. "It's different players on different days. We know who the real difference-makers are on the team and those guys have produced very well. But we've gotten contributions all throughout the lineup, and that includes guys that have gone in and out."
What do you think of Keefe's comments?
