Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan left fans holding their breath at practice for Team Canada amid injury scare at World Junior Championship Tournament.

As Team Canada prepares for their first game in the IIHF World Junior Championship tonight against Team Finland, they can breathe a sigh of relief that Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan will still be on the roster.

Cowan, who was selected to represent Team Canada even though he was unable to skate during selection camp, narrowly avoided a potentially serious injury during practice.

Cowan was on the ice at practice earlier this week to prepare for the upcoming matchup with Finland. Unfortunately, an awkward fall almost derailed his tournament. After a brief delay, though, Cowan was able to get back to his feet.

It looks like Cowan will be fine and ready for game one.

As per Mark Masters on X:

Easton Cowan toe picked & fell in 1st drill of final practice before #WorldJuniors

Remained down for a bit, but was able to continue

"Gotta learn how to skate, I guess," he said. "I'll be good."

& that's good for Team 🇨🇦 because the top line is on 🔥

Cowan seemed in good spirits after the scare, joking about his slip-up. He also spoke about the excitement within the team, especially when it comes to their goal celebrations.

Easton Cowan: "All the boys are excited to hear our goal song, so hopefully we can get that going quick."

What is the new goal song? Cowan couldn't reveal the answer because, well, he doesn't know.

"We don't even know. It's a surprise so whoever scores the first one will, I guess, invent the new goal song."

This injury scare is the second Cowan has faced in recent weeks, the first being a brutal open-ice hit from Oshawa Generals defenseman Zach Sandhu.

Thankfully, Cowan is healthy and set to play, with expectations that he will be on Team Canada's top line. The IIHF World Juniors is often where stars are born, and Cowan will undoubtedly be ready to rise to the occasion.
