Sheldon Keefe was relieved of his duties as the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs today with the majority of fans glad that a change is being made after having just one playoff series victory in the last five seasons.
The writing was essentially on the wall for Keefe after it was revealed the Leafs were moving the media availability of Brendan Shanahan and Brad Treliving to Friday from Thursday after the players and Keefe spoke on Monday.
In a statement released by the Leafs, Treliving explained the decision to relieve Keefe was based on the lack of playoff success.
Keefe is the 18th head coach to be fired in the NHL since last season, but the Leafs likely won't take long to replace him as former St. Louis Blues head coach Craig Berube has been linked to the team for weeks.
