The Fourth Period released their annual list of players most likely to get moved before the deadline and which teams have been linked.
Defenceman Matt Dumba would be an intriguing option for Toronto. He fits the bill of a right shot defenceman who can log big minutes, something the Maple Leafs desperately need. Dumba has been long rumored as a potential option for Toronto and was beleived to be on their radar this past summer.
Insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed Matt Dumba was on the Maple Leafs' radar before settling on John Klingberg in free agency. At the time, Dumba's rumored price was in the $5M range, an amount that proved too rich for Toronto.
In the end, Toronto has had to deal with the failed experiment that was Klingberg's time with the Maple Leafs while Dumba eventually signed with the Ariziona Coyotes on a one-year deal worth $3.9M later on in the summer.
The 29-year-old Dumba has scored 4 goals and 9 points in 51 games this season while averaging 20:04 in ice time. With Dumba playing on an expiring contract, it is very likely that he is moved, and for Toronto, he might be an enticing option because of the fact that he'll cost far less than some of the other options out there.
Dumba would instantly slide into Toronto's top four if acquired, bringing his physicality and defensive prowess to the starving group. Arizona has the cap space to retain on Dumba if the price was right.
