We heard yesterday that the Toronto Maple Leafs are pressing to get a deal done as soon as possible. While the NHL is trying to work with the Canadian government regarding a way around the 14 day quarantine period to help with the trade deadline, nothing is guaranteed as the Canadian government has been very firm on the conditions laid out so far. That's why NHL insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned that the team is moving to get a deal done in the next 14 days to get a head start on that quarantining period if it's needed. We heard him throw out the names of Filip Forsberg, Mikael Granlund and Eric Staal, all players on American teams who would need to quarantine. You can pretty much scratch Forsberg off the list because of salary cap purposes and now it seems you can also scratch another name off the list. According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, Staal is looking at a possible reunion with the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes currently sit in first place of the Discover Central Division with a one point lead on the Tampa Bay Lightning so bringing in somebody familiar with the team would be a huge help. He would be reuniting with his brother Jordan and also a former teammate in Rod Brind'Amour who's the current head coach. Would you have liked to see him in a Leafs' uniform?
