An obviously frustrated Tampa Bay Lightning team had a difficult time generating any momentum against the Maple Leafs on Monday, and those frustrations boiled over when Girgensons took a run at Oliver Ekman-Larsson, appearing to attempt to make contact up high.
Max Domi, who was in close proximity, took exception and went right after the much larger Girgensons, landing a few shots before both fell to the ice. However, Domi never stopped scrambling or swinging, even while the pair were grounded. Domi continued to tee off on Girgensons until the officials pulled him off.
Girgensons felt as though he had a bone to pick with Oliver Ekman-Larsson over this hard hit on Lighting star Jake Guentzel earlier in the period.
Domi has been sensational for the Maple Leafs to kick off the season. On top of being a point-per-game player right now, Domi has still maintained his feisty nature, ensuring that no opponent ever feels as though they've had an easy shift when he's out on the ice.
In the end, the Maple Leafs skated away with a 5-2 win, getting the last laugh in the important Altantic Divison matchup. The game ended with a bit of a skirmish as well, so I'd imagine that the next meeting between these two teams will be another physical contest.
