For the first time, the Maple Leafs find themselves featured on Amazon Prime on Monday for their game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on "Prime Monday Night Hockey". However, before the game even began, there was an incident that occurred during warmups that really rubbed Morgan Rielly the wrong way.
David Alter of The Hockey News shared a short clip, which he shot during the pre-game, which showcased Vasilevskiy building up a good head of steam as he approached center ice, with the 2-time Stanley Cup champion digging his blades hard into the ice and covering Rielly, who was stretching next to the benches, with a healthy layer of snow.
Rielly, obviously not amused, can be spotted in the video saying something to Vasilevskiy, which caused the veteran netminder to quickly look back at Rielly, as if to indicate that he had no idea that he had done anything wrong.
It's well-known that the Leafs and Lightning don't like one another. The two Atlantic Division clubs have had some chippy altercations with one another during both the regular season and the playoffs in recent years. Was this incident completely accidental? Or was it accidentally on purpose? We can't say for sure, but I have a difficult time believing that Vasilevskiy didn't know exactly what he was doing as he approached an outstretched Rielly.
