Max Domi responded to Patrick Roy's comments about his controversial reverse hit on Islanders defenseman Isaiah George that led to the Leafs' first goal.

In the second period of the Leafs' 2-1 win over the Islanders, Domi was first on the puck in the corner of the Islanders' zone when defenseman Isaiah George attempted to engage him along the boards. Domi, peaked over his shoulder and saw him coming, braced himself and threw a reverse hit that caught George unsuspectingly.

George immediately dropped his stick and slowly made his way to the Islanders' bench while Nicholas Robertson collected the loose puck and fed Bobby McMann streaking down the left side who beat Ilya Sorokin short-side to give the Leafs a 1-0 lead.

Domi was not assessed a penalty on the play and following the game, Islanders head coach Patrick Roy had some choice words for the former first-round pick.

"Well, I guess we have a different opinion of the situation and that hit, which, to me, was clearly a headshot»

The Winnipeg born, Toronto native was also asked about the play and he thought the complete opposite (as did officials) of Roy.

"It's part of the game, right? Got to be physical and get in on the forecheck. Separated the body from the puck, and Robbie and Bobby did the rest. "I think you have to play to understand that one,» Domi explained.

«So just go watch that. That was pretty clean, that one. That's a good way of doing it.»

The Domi, McMann, Robertson line was put together on December 15th against the Buffalo Sabres and has been producing the secondary offense the Leafs have needed at an alarming rate.

The line had 4 points last night alone with McMann scoring both Leaf goals and since December 15th, have combined for 26 points in 9 games.

How long this line can keep it up remains to be seen, especially considering that Brad Treliving continues to search for depth down the middle, but at least for now, without Auston Matthews, the Leafs have some secondary scoring and don't have to rely solely on John Tavares, Mitch Marner and William Nylander.
