Recently, the Leafs departed ways with assistant coach Guy Boucher, leaving a hole on Craig Berube's coaching staff.
After weeks of speculation, the Maple Leafs announced today that they have hired former Calgary Flames assistant coach Marc Savard. Savard and the Flames mutually agreed to part ways a few short weeks ago to allow him to pursue other opportunities, but even before that announcement came, many presumed Savard would join Berube in Toronto.
With the hiring of Savard, the Leafs' coaching staff now consists of associate Lane Lambert, assistants Mike Van Ryn and Savard, goalie coach Curtis Sanford and video coaches Jordan Bean and Sam Kim with Craig Berube at the helm. While not confirmed, Savard ran the Flames' power play last season and it is expected that he will do the same in Toronto.
Prior to joining the Flames last season, Savard was the head coach of the OHL's Windsor Spitfires and coached with Berube in St. Louis during the 2019-2020 season.
