It's not every day when a budding young star officially requests to be moved by the team that drafted him, but for Necas, he hasn't been too happy about the role he's been assigned in Carolina.
One of the biggest rumoured issues for Necas is that he receives very little time on the power play. A player of his caliber on most other teams is granted some time on his team's top power play unit, but Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour simply does not view Necas as an upgrade over anyone on his current top unit, even if the skill set is obvious.
There have been rumours of a potential offer sheet for Necas this summer, but they're a tactic seldom used in the NHL. In Necas' case, since the Canes appear to be willing to trade him, teams may not feel the need to explore the offer sheet route.
According to The Fourth Period, the Hurricanes are not looking for a significant package of prospects and draft picks in any deal for Necas. They are looking for a "hockey trade", or a star-for-star swap.
Early indications from TFP are that Seattle, Nashville and Montreal are the frontrunners. Obviously, with the Mitch Marner situation in Toronto, some are curious about a potential Necas+ for Marner deal. Nothing to report there as of yet.
