On Tuesday night against the New Jersey Devils, the Toronto Maple Leafs played an "immature" game according to Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe. The following day, the team was scheduled to practice, but with a number of players being 'banged up', Keefe was forced to cancel practice in favour of running a skills session instead. One of the players who was unavailable was Timothy Liljegren.

Liljegren was back on the ice on Thursday for the game day skate, alongside Jake McCabe, but when teams took to the ice for warmups, Liljegren was absent, leading to a late substitution. As a result, the Leafs activated veteran Mark Giordano from LTIR. It was Giordano's first game back since suffering a concussion at the end of February.

Following last night's game, Sheldon Keefe was asked if he had any update on Liljegren. The Leafs bench boss provided an update, but it wasn't a good one.

"Lily was one of the guys yesterday who was not going to be available for practice. He got a little banged up the other night. He tried it today in the morning skate. It just wasn't right. He is going to miss some time for us."

From Keefe's comments, it sounds like it could be a significant injury. The Leafs have already been without Morgan Rielly and Joel Edmundson this week and with Liljegren now out, three of their projected six starters for game one of the playoffs are all dealing with injuries. Not ideal. Thankfully, the team has at least 9 NHL defensemen on the roster, so they should be fine to weather the storm over the final 10 games.
