"The Toronto Maple Leafs had a great weekend with back to back wins against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers.
The team has now won three straight, and thanks to those wins, the 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs wrote their name into the franchise's record books.
With 20 wins in 31 games, the 2017-18 Leafs tied the third fastest mark to 20 wins in franchise history. Coming up just shy of the first place and second place teams. The 1946-47 Leafs registered 20 wins in 30 games to start the season while the 1934-35 Leafs won 20 of their first 28 games played.
David Alter pointed out on Twitter, the 1993-94 Leafs who started 10-0-0 got to 20 wins as fast as the current team has.
The team also set it's own franchise record as Sunday night was the first time in franchise history the opening minute goal stood as a game winner. Zach Hyman scored just 34 seconds into the game and backup Curtis McElhinney made 41 saves to make sure that goal stood as the game winner. Not only did that goal stand as the first in franchise history to be a game winner within a minute, it's also the first game winner to be scored in the first five minutes of a game.
The previous record was at 5:20 of the first period scored in 1949 by Sid Smith against the Canadiens.
