Woll was placed on injured reserve on the first day of the regular season and must be out a minimum of 10 days. Yesterday, Woll skated briefly ahead of practice before Craig Berube addressed his situation. Berube noted after practice that he was hopeful Woll would be able to join for Wednesday's morning skate, which came to fruition.
Woll faced shots from training staff and his teammates during Wednesday's morning skate, but is ineligible to return to the lineup as he has not been on the IR for the minimum requirement yet. Woll will be eligible to come off of IR ahead of Saturday's game against the New York Rangers. However, given the play of Stolarz and Hildeby, the Leafs may take advantage of the stability between the pipes and keep Woll out of action as long as possible to ensure that he is 100-percent healthy.
With Woll ineligible to play tonight, the Leafs will turn to Dennis Hildeby and Anthony Stolarz for the third straight game. Stolarz is set to play his third game in eight days as he followed his starter's routine and was the first goalie off the ice. Stolarz is coming off of a 4-2 victory Saturday over the Pittsburgh Penguins that saw him stop 21 of 23 shots, ensuring Leaf fans went home happy after the home opener.
Shortly after winning the Stanley Cup, the former second-round pick signed a two-year deal with the Leafs. Through his first two games, Stolarz has posted an outstanding .940 save percentage and 1.54 GAA with a 1-1-0 record and looks poised to challenge Woll for as many starts as possible.
