As the Toronto Maple Leafs look to rebound from back-to-back losses to the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins, some good news appears on the horizon: one of their key players, a regular in the lineup, is nearing a return.
That player is Max Domi, as reported by Luke Fox on X on Monday:
Fox also noted that Jake McCabe was at practice, but Bobby McMann was absent, indicating his recovery timeline may be longer.
Both Domi and McCabe were seen skating last week, so their return seemed imminent. Now, with Domi potentially back in the lineup as early as Tuesday night's clash against the New Jersey Devils, the Maple Leafs are getting close to full health.
However, with a player returning from injury, another must be sent down or scratched. All signs point to fan favorite Nikita Grebenkin being the most likely candidate.
While Grebenkin has impressed during his call-up, showcasing promise and earning the affection of fans with his hilarious interviews, his spot in the lineup is likely to be taken by Domi, as there were no Leafs players placed on waivers on Monday and Grebenkin is waivers exempt.
The Maple Leafs will need a strong performance against the Devils tomorrow, and having a strong playmaker like Domi back in the lineup could be the jolt the Leafs need to snap their 2-game losing skid.
