There are multiple stories ahead of tonight such as: can Toronto keep their winning streak alive or will Arizona snap their ten game losing streak, but none are more exciting than Auston Matthews being one goal away from fifty on the season.
It appears that all eyes really are on the goal scoring phenom. Matthews' linemate, rookie Matthew Knies, is finding it difficult to contain his excitement for the milestone thay his offensive juggernaut centreman is eying. More to this, Knies wants to be the one to help Matthews hit 50 goals tonight.
Both Knies and Matthews have plenty of family back home in Arizona and Knies is vowing to try his absolute best to set up his centreman in front of their family and friends tonight in their home state.
Maple Leafs captain John Tavares also thinks there's a good chance Matthews reaches fifty goals in Arizona and that their teammates would love to see it happen tonight.
Hopefully Toronto doesn't try and set Matthews up all night and understand that the goals are simply coming naturally to the gifted goal scorer. The bigger focus coming into tonight is not allowing a bottom feeder team to outplay a strong Leafs quad, who look to bring their current win streak to five games, all without defenseman Morgan Rielly, who will be set to return from his suspension Thursday night in Vegas.
