The 14-7-2 Maple Leafs will face the 8-14-2 Blackhawks in an Original Six matchup this evening.
While the forward lines remain unchanged, there is one significant defensive alteration. Jake McCabe, known for his rugged play, left the game against the Tampa Bay Lightning after blocking a shot with his neck on Saturday evening.
Despite Craig Berube stating that McCabe wouldn't miss any time, it has since been confirmed that McCabe has been given a day off for precautionary reasons and will be out of the lineup for tonight's game.
According to David Alter on X:
The player stepping in for McCabe is 27-year-old Philippe Myers, who will be playing in just his second game with the Leafs this season. Myers, eager to prove himself, is excited for the opportunity.
Luke Fox shared on X:
In addition to McCabe's absence, defenseman Jani Hakanpaa has been placed on injured reserve. It's an unfortunate setback for the blueline and for Hakanpaa, who has struggled with injuries over the last few seasons.
With several injuries depleting their roster, the Leafs will once again rely on their depth as they take on Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks tonight.
